Tom was born and raised on a mixed sheep, beef and cropping property at Hunterville in the central North Island of New Zealand.  He studied for a Bachelors degree in agriculture at Massey University in Palmerston North before a brief stint overseas playing rugby. 

On return to New Zealand Tom took over as farm manager at Burleigh farm.  Burleigh is owned by Kiwitech’s Wier family.  The property is used to test management practices and hardware for the companies fencing and water systems. As manager Tom had input into developing the hardware and grazing management training course as well as managing the farm to achieve outstanding beef production.

Tom left Burleigh to start the grazing system design company that has become Agdesign. 
Tom lives in Palmerston North, New Zealand, with his wife Helen and children Charlie and Meg.
